The Art of Coaching - For The College Graduate

The Art of Coaching
The coaching process is designed to bring out your potential and take you to the next level. It serves as a mechanism which will allow you to experience long-term growth and development, at the same time improving your performance. A coach should create a condition that allows for continuous development. It should be noted that the primary function of coaching is to lessen a variance or rather close the gap between your current level of achievement and the desired level you have targeted in conjunction with your coach. There are several avenues you can pursue in this venture. First it can be one workshop or it can be a myriad of interactions.
Your coach should assess your performance by reviewing the situation as it stands today. Next you and your coach should sit down and define achievable realistic goals, explore several ideas by brainstorming, and then put a plan of action into place with episodes of follow up. Initially you might think you don’t need a coach, then I suggest you think again. Anyone that has ever achieved any level of greatness in any endeavor has had a coach. Michael Jordan arguably the greatest player to have played the game of basketball, had a coach. Professional athletes have coaches for different areas such as conditioning, health and nutrition, free throw shooting, blocking, batting, passing, and defense.
Any area that you desire to excel in or reach perfection it is a good idea to get a coach. Consider the business executive looking for a promotion. They center in on those key areas which need enhancing and they get a coach to expedite the process. Perhaps they are looking for image enhancement, improvement in productivity, improving on sales techniques, social skills, communication skills, or maybe presentation skills. The advantages of having a coach are innumerable. Also the coaching process in continual. The following is an analysis of how the process works:
To start you and your coach will agree mutually upon a set of objectives, goals or achievements to strive for during this interaction. The next step is for you and your coach to breakdown, analyze and discuss the circumstances as they exist today. Example: Coach: I notice when you make sales calls your approach is mechanical and contrived. It sounds rehearse and insincere as though you are reading a script.
Step three allows you and your coach to come together to discuss every possible initiative available for accomplishing the desired result.
Example: Perhaps you can listen to some of the other seasoned sales representatives as they make sales calls. Or we can record your sales pitch and play it back and correct your weaknesses and at the same time build upon your strengths.
The next phase calls for planning an action process.
The next step allows you and your coach to put the action plan or process to work.
The next step allows you and your coach to see what is working and what is not working. Are the stated goals being met or at least is there a process improvement over the previous week , month or quarter.
The coaching process enhances potential by asking questions and receiving constructive feedback that will encourage you to become more aware of your strengths and weaknesses. Eliminate the things you are not doing so well and enhance the things you are doing well. This allows you to develop new skills which allows you to take on more challenges. What ensues is your competence and confidence improve, your esteem grows, which encourages you to take more initiative in going after your stated goals. Coaching leads to the road to success and eventually will take you beyond greatness!!!!!!

Manage Your Career - Career builders

In order to get ahead you must increase your value and this in itself will make you more marketable. Have your ever wondered how the elite within certain organizations elevated themselves to the levels they have attained? How did the CEO’s, supervisors, department managers, directors, and presidents get to where they are? Compiled below is a list of ten things which will help elevate your career to the next level.

1. Attitude. Attitude is everything. It determines your altitude not your aptitude. It’s the first thing people notice about you. A positive mental attitude is a generally optimistic and cheerful way of greeting people and problems and events that you encounter throughout your day.

2. Set goals. You must set goals and have a plan of action in place to achieve those goals. First you must know what you want. What is the next position you want to be promoted to? Find out everything you can about that position; the duties of that position; things that are expected of someone in that position. Also find out how that job interacts with other departments within the company.

3. Get a mentor. A mentor is someone with a vast amount of experience, expertise and knowledge, who is willing to share ideas with you on a regular basis. Choose a colleague whom you trust and respect, and ask that person to be your mentor. Then request regular feedback. Sometimes it will be someone within your own organization and other times not.

4. Interview successful executives. Find out what their habits are. What places do they frequent? What do they read? What qualities or attributes. Do they feel are key to getting ahead? Make a list of individuals you respect and who have already achieved outstanding success. Set a goal to invite each of them to lunch or set up an appointment to meet them at their office. Use a notebook to write down all their ideas.

5. Hardwork/worksmart
You must get the results. There is no substitute for hard work and working smart. Always look for ways to implement process improvements, which will enable a job or function to be performed more efficiently and effectively. Make sure you mention your ideas to management. Always do the things that losers don’t like to do. Come in a little earlier and leave a little later. Plan your day the night before so you can hit the ground rounding instead of wasting valuable time setting up.

6. Self-image. Your self-image is how you see yourself. How you see yourself determines your productivity and your work ethic. When you see yourself as a winner
then you begin to act like a winner. Your output increases and you become more effective and efficient.
7. Read. Leaders are readers. Build you own library. Read inspirational and motivational material. Keep up to date on current events. Always invest in yourself. Explore other self-development activities. Listen to motivational tapes. Read the biographies of successful individuals. There is a host of information about the successful steps they have taken to achieve their status. And you can too.

8. Study the competition. Know something about the competition because you may be able to save your company some money based on what the competition is doing; or it can help you get a process improvement implemented. This can also help your organization to hold on to its competitive advantage and market share based on analyzing the strategy of a competitor. Your customers may love your organization with the exception of the one service or product a competitor offers. Suggest to management that that product or service be added to your organization. This could result in an increase in market share and thousands of dollars in new sales.

9. Do the things failures won’t do. Sometimes circumstances will require you to work longer hours, but in the end the payoff will be well worth it. You may have to make 100 additional sales calls. It comes down to going above and beyond the call of duty. The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.

10. Team player. Always be a team player. Look for ways to help the team achieve its goals. A large part of your success is dependent upon your ability to get along well with others. Establish good sound relationships with co-workers and take an interest in their
job duties and functions. Share your best demonstrated practices with your co-workers when they excel so will you, as will your boss or supervisor and everything will eventually point its way back to you as the one who spearheaded it all.

Credit Report Management For The Recent College Graduate

We live in a credit based society. It is nearly impossible to go through this life without credit. It can probably be done with great effort. In this day and age you need credit to rent a car, (in most cases), rent a hotel room, or to make large purchases such as a house. The credit that is extended to us is a convenience and we should do our best to manage it wisely.

If you apply for a job some financial organizations will not hire you if your credit is not in the best shape possible. Even today some insurance companies will charge you higher premiums for your automobile, if your credit in not in great shape. There are some financial organizations that will shut down your line of credit on your credit card or increase your interest rate if you default on a debt with another creditor even though you never defaulted with the initial credit card company that increases your rate.

Your credit file is constantly being monitored by the institutions you have credit with. They want to make sure your situation has not changed in such a way that you pose a risk for them. For example if you have five different credit cards and each has a credit limit of $5,000 and they all have zero balances that gives you total available credit of $25,000. Great! Now watch what can happen. If you charge $20,000 in merchandise and services on your credit card that leaves you with $5,000 of available credit, which means you have utilized 80% of your available credit. ($20,000/$25,000) = 80%. If you utilize 35% to 40% of your available credit most financial institutions will consider you a risk, not to mention 80%. At this point they can take some sort of action. Some financial institutions have increased the interest rate on the credit card you have with their organization or they refuse to extend you any further credit. This high utilization of credit can lower your credit score or fico score.

The credit bureaus issue you a credit score ranging from 350 to 900. This is called your fico score. The higher your score the less of a risk you pose for a financial institution and you are more likely to receive lower rates of interest for the financial products and services you purchase. Companies will likely send you offers in the mail for 0% interest on a credit card offer for some promotional time frame. When you apply for a mortgage loan and you score is, lets say, in the area of 600 to 625 you are more likely to receive a higher interest rate on your mortgage loan than if you have a score of say 725 to 750. The lower score can cost you thousands of dollars over the term of your loan because of the higher interest.

What are some things that can lower your credit score. First and foremost is paying your debts late. This will drop your score very quickly. Also as previously mentioned high utilization of your available credit. Closing credit lines because they are paid off can also lower your credit score. If you have a new credit file without much credit this can also be a contributor to a lower credit score. If someone sues you or garnishes your wages, a judgment filed against you, or if you file a petition for bankruptcy. One other concept is having an authorized user on one of your credit card accounts that does not pay.

What is an authorized user? An authorized user is someone you have given permission to use a credit card issued by one of your credit card companies. For example you have credit card with XYZ bank and you tell the bank to send a relative a credit card. This means you have given the relative permission to use the card for purchases, but the relative is not legally responsible to make payments on that account. If there are arrangements for the relative to pay this is strictly between you and the relative; the bank will look to you for payments not the authorized user. If payments are made late they will show up on both credit files. There fore it is very important to make sure you handle your Credit file in an excellent manner.

A Purpose Driven LIfe for the College Graduate - Your Purpose Will Unleash Your Greatness

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to operate at optimal efficiency. I mean utilizing all your talent and ability to their full extent. In other words reaching your full potential. It’s also called self actualization, becoming all that you can be.
Well I have some news for you. You’re only able to do that once you come into the knowledge of what your purpose is. Our purpose speaks of our uniqueness. I believe we all come into this life with a specific purpose, a definitive thing that we are supposed to accomplish. Some of us at a very early age, I mean two, three or even four years old, we come into this life with an understanding of our purpose. Now certainly you don’t have all the pieces in place at such a young age, but there are certain things a child loves to do day in and day out; they more or less gravitate towards it, which provides a clue as to what their purpose is. As parents and adults it’s our job to hone and develop those skills within that child.
Then others come into this life and it’s only after a very long, hard, tedious, arduous, very painstaking journey that we finally come into the knowledge of what our purpose is. I mean we go from job to job, business to business, activity to activity and relationship to relationship. We hit one wall and ricochet off another wall and wind up right back where we started. And it’s all about trying to find our purpose. Therefore we have to understand in the final analysis after everything has been said and done and after the smoke has cleared and after you have pulled yourself from amongst the rubble and debris you must come face to face with the most indelible truth; we were called into this world for a purpose.
There is neither accident, happenstance, chance nor coincidence, this entire universe is all interrelated. There is a spirit realm and a physical realm - It’s the law of cause and effect. And it’s my own humble opinion that we were called into this world to be great and not settle for the status quo, nor the mediocre things in life and certainly it is not our lot in life to dwell within the chambers of our own comfort zones.
Let me explain what happens when we dwell within that place of comfort, the greatness within you is placed on hold. More correctly, our greatness is being held hostage. Quite frankly the only way to unleash the greatness within us is to come out of our comfort zones, establish our purpose and begin to walk into our destiny. We must begin to fulfill our destiny. We will , at this point, begin to understand and realize peace, joy, happiness, and prosperity as soon as we begin to do the thing in life we were created to do as it pertains to the glorification of God and the building of his kingdom.
You see a musician must play music, a singer must sing, a dancer must dance, a writer must write, an artist must draw, a teacher must teach and a pastor must preach and teach because that’s their purpose. Until you begin to flow in the direction of your purpose there will always be a divine agitation on the inside pulling, tugging and nudging you on in the direction of your purpose. So today I say walk into your destiny, fulfill your purpose and unleash the greatness and watch the excitement, enthusiasm, passion, drive and direction that comes forth in your life.

A Professionally Prepared Resume

For as long as I can remember I always prepared my own resume. And the interviews I received were far and few in between, let alone any job offers. One day I went in to see a gentlement at an outplacement firm, thinking he could jump start my career. We conversed back and forth on my career goals.

Then he asked me the million dollar question. "On a scale of 1 to 10 what would you rate this copy of your resume. I was so proud of my resume, I was really thinking it was about a 9 or 10, but I did not want to appear arrogant so I said oh, it's about a 7 or 8. And he continued on with the conversation as though I had not answered his question. He continued talking for another 5 to 10 minutes.

So now I was curious. I wanted to know what he thought about my resume. So when he paused to take a breath, I interjected. "What would you rate my resume?" He paused for a moment. Well on a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate it a 1 .... almost a 2, at best. That threw me for a loop. He said this resume is the run of the mill cookie cutter example. It has no imagination. It looks like you developed it from a template. The structure of it, he went on, looks like it was designed for a production worker. But you are in management.

You better believe I had it professionally prepared. What a difference that made. I really started to get the interviews. My resume was done so well I just could not believe it. The resume preparer appeared to know more about me and accomplishments than I did. That was not the case but the piece of work she made of my resume was awesome to behold.

If you have a resume it pays to invest the money to get it professionally prepared and you will be able to see the difference not only in your resume but in the interviews and job offers. I am sure you have a friend who could do a very credible job but why chance it when the competition is so fierce. This one act will put you far out ahead of the competition and give you the competitive edge.
